Elton's Winter Ball

For the first time, the Elton John AIDS Foundation is holding a Winter Ball, to take place on Sunday, December 13 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. Elton and David Furnish will host the ball, along with sponsors Grey Goose Vodka. Elton and David say the following in their ticket invitation:
"Over the years, we have been asked many times by guests at our White Tie & Tiara Ball whether it would be possible to do a similar event for the Christmas season. So it is with great pleasure we invite you to join us this December for the inaugural Character & Cocktails: Winter Ball sponsored by our friends Grey Goose. The event transforms Grosvenor House's Great Room, taking us into the world of Grand Palais for an evening of exquisite Grey Goose cocktails, dinner and an auction of fabulous cocktail bars, each one designed by a very special supporter of the Foundation - Roland Mouret, Lily Allen and Lily Cole.
"We are particularly thrilled that a special surprise guest artist will treat us to an exclusive performance on the night.
"The Foundation prides itself not only on producing beautiful events, but on ensuring that every penny they raise goes directly to our charitable work. This event is no exception, thanks to the generosity of Grey Goose. The Foundation is now one of the largest HIV/AIDS charities in the world, yet our overheads are amongst the smallest - currently 4.3%.
"Over the past year, we have committed to initiatives that change not only the way services are received in local projects but at a national or international level. These include working with the Clinton Foundation to expand and refine treatment services for over 20,000 children in Malawi, Lesotho, Tanzania, Zambia and Kenya, and with Mothers 2 Mothers in the same countries to stop HIV-positive pregnant women transferring the virus to their babies. In Ukraine, a national programme for children will change the way HIV-positive children are told about their illness and how they are treated in school and in society.
"These programmes do not mean we have forgotten the small groups, the individual carers, the long term survivors. Our work reaches thousands of infected and affected individuals across 17 countries, including right here in the United Kingdom.
"The Winter Ball is a fantastic occasion to celebrate this work, to ensure that we can continue in the fight against HIV/AIDS and to celebrate Christmas. We really hope that the range of ticket options gives all our donors an opportunity to support this Ball.
"We look forward to seeing you there."

Elton Doesn't Know Whats Wrong with Billy

Elton John is back in good health and "raring to go".
The 62-year-old singer was hospitalised last month with a serious e-coli infection, forcing him to cancel a string of US concerts. After nine days of intravenous antibiotics treatment and close monitoring by doctors, he is "out and about" and feeling good. But Elton is still unsure about what triggered the illness.
"It was something that I've never had before - a serious e-coli infection which I got from something I ate," he said. "It was horrible, but now I'm back and raring to go. I'm out and about and I'm good."
Intravenous antibiotics were used to treat the icon.
But the star is certain it wasn't something baked by his long-term partner David Furnish.
He laughed: "No, no, David doesn't cook!"
Elton's postponed Face 2 Face concert tour looks unlikely to continue. Just as Elton is feeling better, his touring partner Billy Joel has been struck down by a mystery illness.
Elton said: "I don't know what's wrong with him. I heard he's sick. I have no idea what's going on with him."

Sir Elton John has offered refunds to fans for his cancelled shows after they proved impossible to reschedule.

But promoters of the Red Piano tour shows said today that the gigs in Sheffield, Newcastle, London and Liverpool will not now be rearranged.
